How can I make my home more energy efficient?

There are many ways that you can improve the energy efficiency of your home through HVAC, plumbing, and electrical upgrades. Start by keeping up with regular HVAC maintenance. Then, you can consider upgrading to energy-efficient plumbing fixtures, sealing ductwork, improving insulation, and installing LED lighting or updated electrical components. A whole-home approach across heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems can significantly lower utility costs and improve overall comfort.

How can I troubleshoot my system before calling for service?

For HVAC issues, check your thermostat settings, air filter, and circuit breakers. For plumbing, look for visible leaks or ensure shut-off valves are fully open, and for electrical concerns, check for tripped breakers or GFCI outlets that may need resetting. If the issue persists, it’s best to schedule professional service. Our blogs page also has many helpful tips and expert advice for your common home questions.

Do you inspect the entire HVAC system, including the ductwork?

We provide thorough inspections depending on the HVAC service you need. For repairs, we can evaluate your ductwork in order to diagnose the issue at hand and determine the proper fix. For our maintenance plan holders, we ensure your system is not only functional but producing clean, healthy airflow as well as operating at peak efficiency levels. Clean and properly sealed ductwork plays a crucial role in achieving this, so it is part of our regular maintenance checks.

Do you offer emergency services after hours?

We do offer after-hours services for urgent HVAC, plumbing, and electrical services across many of our locations. Reach out to your local Ace Hardware Home Services office to find out if emergency services are available in your area.

How do I know what size HVAC unit I need for my home?

In general, your home requires approximately 25 BTUs to control the climate of one square foot in your home. For a very rough estimate, multiply your square footage by 25 to get a general idea of how large a system you will need. It is important to note, however, that there are several factors that figure into determining the right size unit, including ceiling heights, type and quality of insulation, drafts, and ductwork seal quality to name a few. Consulting with our trained technicians will give you the most accurate estimate on what you’ll need.

Are all Ace Hardware Home Service technicians licensed?

Yes, our technicians are properly licensed and trained to service HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems in accordance with state and local regulations. We value providing peace of mind, so you can count on our team to provide safe and code-compliant work.
